Looking ahead to TMCC’s annual Commencement Ceremony, which will take place at Lawlor Events Center on Friday, May 10, it’s easy to get excited. If you visit the Celebration website, you’ll find a printable version of the program online, live stream ready on the day of, and the TMCC Bookstore selling caps and gowns. Now, it’s time to look at the extraordinary accomplishments of our graduating students.
The Class of 2024 includes students in five brand-new degree and certificate programs who will have their first-ever graduates and students ages 16 through 66. Congratulations to our newest alums as you celebrate your achievement!
Here’s a look at the Class of 2024 by the numbers:
A total of 1,280 students are candidates for graduation this year, and they have earned a total of 1,431 degrees or certificates. TMCC invites all students in the Class of 2024 to participate in the ceremony, including those from Fall 2023, Spring 2024, and Summer 2024. These are candidates who earned:
- 35 bachelor’s degrees
- 1,156 associate degrees
- 234 certificates of achievement
- 25 degrees earned by dual-enrolled ACE High School students
- 55 degrees earned by dual-enrolled TMCC High School students
TMCC’s new programs that will award their first degrees or certificates this year include:
- Accounting, certificate of achievement
- Architecture and Construction, Construction Management, associate of applied science
- Career and Technical Education, bachelor of applied science
- Data Science, associate of science
- LMH Diesel Fleet Maintenance Technician, certificate of achievement
Additionally, the class of 2024 is a diverse group, including:
- 19 International students from Japan, Philippines, Colombia, Costa Rica, Germany, Korea, Romania, and Thailand
- 191 Nevada Promise Scholars
- 14 Student-Athletes
- 97 Veteran students
- Our oldest candidate is 66 years old and will receive an associate of fine arts degree
- Our youngest candidate is 16 years old and will receive an associate of science degree
Special Honors to Award
Alixe Bunyard, graduating with an Associate of Science - Community Health Science Pre-Nursing degree, is the 2024 recipient of the Sam Lieberman Regents’ Award for Student Scholarship. A member of the Nevada National Guard’s 152 Airlift Wing, she has tirelessly worked to rejuvenate the Truckee Meadows Veterans Club at TMCC to create a social network for veteran students and foster a supportive environment.
Alumna Edith Duarte will be honored as the 2024 TMCC Alumna of the Year. Edith is the founder of Horne Duarte Government and Public Affairs, where she dedicates herself to embracing diverse representation in the legislative process and implementation. Edith also serves on the board of the Community Health Alliance Foundation.
