EPIC Instructor Spotlight A self-proclaimed hobbyist with a passion for preservation and education, Ray Hopper has been keeping bees since 1982. As a Vietnam Veteran, Ray was first introduced to beekeeping after his service in the Air Force through an Applied Entomology course at Oregon State University and later received his Master Beekeeper certificate from Montana University in 2021. Inspired by the crucial role bees play in supporting American agriculture, maintaining biodiversity and helping backyard gardens flourish, Ray has dedicated his life to bee conservation and creating a “buzz” about these tiny pollinators. Founder of the Help Save the Bees Foundation as well as an instrumental proponent behind Reno’s certification as a Bee City USA and TMCC’s Bee Campus USA, his efforts are making a difference in bee education, preservation and habitat restoration throughout our community. Just in time for the summer season, discover the world of bees with EPIC’s “Backyard Beekeeping!” Join us to learn about bee species, habitat and the equipment necessary to raise healthy colonies of bees – perfect for producing honey or helping your garden thrive!
