Design and Page Layout by Brandie Davis, Graphic Designer II Introduction Truckee Meadows Community College’s brand standards have been created to promote the TMCC brand across the region, the state and well beyond. About the TMCC Logo The official TMCC logo contains the “Mountain” and the letters “TMCC” underneath or beside the “Mountain.” The words “Truckee Meadows Community College” are optional, either stacked below the “TMCC” or displayed in one line underneath the “Mountain” and “TMCC” depending on logo orientation. The primary logo for TMCC is the square version with only the “Mountain” and “TMCC”. In addition to the official logo variations, multiple limited-use versions may also be used (e.g.: anniversary celebration or branding campaign variations). These logos or wordmarks are generally available for employee/staff use; please contact the Marketing and Communications office for more information. Fun Fact! There have been many debates about what the TMCC “Mountain” represents, ranging from the Truckee river flowing down the Sierras, Red Mountain (behind the Dandini Campus) and the road leading up to TMCC. What does it mean to you? TMCC | Brand Identity Standards 5
Versions of the Logo The TMCC logo consists of three (3) primary variations (referred to as “TMCC Block Logo”, “TMCC Horizontal Logo” and “TMCC Stacked Logo) which can be displayed in up to three (3) approved colors (TMCC Green, Black and White; see Color Systems for detailed information). TMCC Block Logos There is one version of the TMCC Block Logo – it consists of a square with the TMCC Stacked Logo in the middle. This TMCC logo exist in two colors only: TMCC Green (PMS 583) or Black. Changing the square block color to anything but TMCC Green or Black is prohibited (previously approved logos with different color blocks must be phased out immediately and replaced with either a TMCC Green or Black version). Suggested Uses The TMCC Block Logos are to be used on collateral materials that are visually conducive to displaying a block or square version of the brand, such as lapel pins, stickers, toys, etc. TMCC Horizontal Logos There are two versions of the TMCC Horizontal Logo - one with the “TMCC Mountain” and the letters “TMCC”, and one with the additional “Truckee Meadows Community College” spelled out underneath the main part of the logo. These TMCC logos exist in three colors only: TMCC Green (PMS 583), Black or White. In some special applications, the TMCC logo may appear in Silver or Gold foil, such as on special presentation folders or commencement handouts. Such special applications are approved by Marketing and Communications on a case-by-case basis. Suggested Uses The TMCC Horizontal Logos are to be used on collateral materials that are visually conducive to displaying a horizontal version of the brand, such as pens, pencils, banners, etc. Need a department logo? Specialty Logos TMCC has created various specialty logos and wordmarks for different uses around campus and within the community. Please see the examples below. TMCC Stacked Logos There are two versions of the TMCC Stacked Logo - one with the “TMCC Mountain” and the letters “TMCC”, and one with the additional “Truckee Meadows Community College” spelled out underneath the main part of the logo. Suggested Uses The TMCC Stacked Logos are to be used on collateral materials that are visually conducive to displaying a stacked version of the brand, such as mugs, hats, t-shirts, etc. (mask-wearing) TMCC | Brand Identity Standards 7
Logo Usage Guidelines 1. The logo may only be used in “TMCC Green” (PMS 583), black or white. Color alterations are not permitted, including reducing the opacity or tint of the official logo variations or altering the color of the square in any way. 2. Colors may appear different on your monitor than how they appear in print. For color matching assistance, please contact us. 3. Both square logos must only be produced or printed on white paper or other substrates. Failure to do so may make the print or production job more expensive, as the “Mountain” and “TMCC” must remain white. 4. Special use: the logo may be embossed, engraved, etched, cast in metal or carved in wood or stone. When possible, official colors should be used. 5. The logo must appear prominently and clearly on ALL College materials and must be reviewed by Marketing and Communications prior to production to ensure consistency in use and to maintain the integrity of the College’s visual identity. 6. If the logo cannot be displayed or produced clearly, contact Marketing and Communications for additional options. 7. Logos are available for download. Marketing and Communications can assist in the creation of logos in a specific size. Do not attempt to scan or recreate the logo for use. 8. Logos may not be broken up, rearranged, skewed, distorted, crowded or altered in any way other than resizing proportionally (usually performed by holding SHIFT when resizing, or clicking on the CORNER anchor points to resize). 9. Adding additional words or phrases to the logo, including attempts to replicate “Truckee Meadows Community College” instead of using the approved logo with the full name of the institution, is not permitted. 10. Using any retired versions of the TMCC logo, including the “Oval” or any earlier renditions of the current TMCC logo (most often seen with 2 colors in the TM and CC) is not permitted. 11. Outside entities or organizations may use the TMCC Logo with prior written approval from Marketing and Communications. Unauthorized use is prohibited. It’s up to everyone to be Brand Champions and help the TMCC brand remain strong within our community! 8 TMCC | Brand Identity Standards

Color Systems × Primary Color System × Secondary Color System 10 TMCC | Brand Identity Standards
About Colors One of the keys to establishing and maintaining a strong visual identity is the use of brand colors. The TMCC brand color system is composed of three primary colors PMS 583 “TMCC Green” Black White and 5 secondary (accent) colors PMS 115 • PMS 145 • PMS 202 • PMS 276 • PMS 3305 Whenever possible, the primary color system should be used before the secondary color system. TMCC Green (PMS 583) is a tricky color. For readability purposes, do not typeset entire blocks of text in TMCC Green. Using it as an accent color for text is preferred. Special use: most vendors can color-match to PMS 583, but if color-matching is not available, please contact Marketing and Communications for suitable alternatives. Fun Fact! TMCC’s secondary color system was chosen after extensive focus group studies amongst TMCC faculty, staff and students, as well as community members and stakeholders. Each color represents a collection of positive qualities about TMCC (eg. “Pretty” “Clean” “Safe”). What’s your favorite TMCC color? TMCC | Brand Identity Standards 11
Primary Color System TMCC’s primary color system is used to ensure the reproduction of color is consistent, no matter where the colors appear. As an example, TMCC Green is used in the logo whenever possible as it serves as the key color in TMCC brand recognition. The primary color system is used for the TMCC logo, text, color fields and accent colors. Colors can be created via different methods depending on the application you are using. Please refer to the different formulas within the color system examples when recreating colors on your computer. TMCC Green Spot: Pantone® 538 CMYK: 39 • 17 • 100 • 1 RGB: 170 • 179 • 0 HEX: #AAB300 TMCC Black Spot: Pantone® 419 CMYK: 76 • 65 • 66 • 90 RGB: 33 • 35 • 34 HEX: #212322 White Spot: Pantone® 11-0601 TCX CMYK: 0 • 0 • 0 • 0 RGB: 255 • 255 • 255 HEX: #FFFFFF Screening/Tinting/Opacity Ranges TMCC Green and black may be tinted to all percentages. 100% 90% 80% 70% 60% 50% 40% 30% 20% 10% The way a specific color displays on your screen is dependent on the type of monitor you use, whether it is calibrated accurately and the type of program you are using to view the color. The values provided are color accurate to the specifications of this Brand Identity Standards and should only be used if an exact Pantone® color match is not available. 12 TMCC | Brand Identity Standards
Secondary Color System Used for color fields and accent colors (sparingly). Dark colors (PMS 202, 276, 3305) may be used for text, but light colors (PMS 115, 145) may not. About Fonts The official College fonts used for consistency in TMCC printed publications are Myriad Pro and Minion Pro. TMCC uses these typefaces in communications to students, faculty/staff and the community. Every effort should be made to use the approved typefaces before substitutions are made, but we understand that font restrictions are sometimes unavoidable. For questions about installing approved fonts, please contact it@tmcc.edu. Fun Fact! Fonts sometimes speak louder than the words they represent. Minion (this font) for instance represents a modern vision of old-style glyphs, giving the reader’s eyes time absorb the information being digested while being true to its Baroque typeface roots. Do you have a favorite typeface? TMCC | Brand Identity Standards 15
Primary Fonts The primary typefaces for TMCC communications are Myriad Pro and Minion Pro. Myriad Pro is a sans serif font that provides readability and legibility for most of the College’s communications. Minion Pro is a serif font that is primarily used for official College documents, like policy manuals and elevated promotional pieces like the Commencement program. If these fonts are not available, Marketing and Communications can suggest suitable alternatives. Note that for all online publications, including the TMCC website, fonts should be set to Open Sans, 16px. TMCC Logo Font The logo typeface for TMCC is Helvetica Neue. All logos created for the College contain this typeface as a primary element in both the “TMCC” as well as any supplementary information, like a department or office name. See below for a TMCC Logo font breakdown. Accent Fonts Accent typefaces are used sparingly to provide a visual break for information, to highlight a headline or to liven-up a design. The Mascot × Mascot Guidelines × Wizard the Lizard Costume 18 TMCC | Brand Identity Standards
About the Mascot The TMCC Mascot was created and adopted in the Spring of 2014 through a joint project with the College and the Student Government Association. It is composed of a Lizard on all four legs with a slight smirk on the face and “TMCC Green” in color. The official name for the TMCC Mascot is “Wizard.” In February of 2016, the Student Government Association voted to declare Wizard gender-neutral. There are two official variations of the TMCC Mascot, one “plain” and one with a mortarboard, tassel and over-sized diploma. Fun Fact! As far back as 1973, students at the Stead Campus were interested in the lizard being the mascot. Over the years, the lizard was chosen by students again and again to be the official college mascot. And yes, it is a lizard (not a gecko). How many lizards have you spotted on campus? TMCC | Brand Identity Standards 19
Mascot Guidelines 1. The TMCC Mascot graphic must be used in conjunction with an official TMCC logo (as shown below) and not in place of the logo. 2. Due to the Mascot graphic primarily being used on promotional materials, it is important to note that the graphic itself contains three colors: PMS 583, Black and White. This can increase production costs. 3. The Mascot graphic may not be broken up, rearranged, skewed, distorted or altered in any way other than resizing proportionally without prior authorization from Marketing and Communications. 4. Any alterations to the Mascot graphic, including adding accessories, hats, decorations, etc. is not permitted (see below for examples of misuse). 5. Adding text or phrases to the Mascot graphic in chat bubbles or thought bubbles is not permitted. No department, division, club, building, etc. name should accompany the Mascot graphic. Due to the limiting nature of some promotional products, the Mascot graphic is also available in single-color and two-color options, though their use is not encouraged. If you have the budget to produce a three-color mascot, please do (it looks much better, trust us)! 20 TMCC | Brand Identity Standards
Wizard the Lizard Costume With the adoption of an official TMCC mascot, a Wizard the Lizard mascot costume was created for various on-campus and community appearances. The costume was modeled after the TMCC Mascot graphic. Mascot appearances can be scheduled through the Recruitment and Access Center. TMCC | Brand Identity Standards 21
TMCC Athletics × Athletics Logo Variations × Mighty the Lizard 22 TMCC | Brand Identity Standards
About TMCC Athletics ¡Vamos Verdes! The Truckee Meadows Community College soccer program fields both men’s and women’s teams. TMCC is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), and competes in the Scenic West Athletic Conference, which is composed of junior colleges in Idaho, Utah, Colorado, and Nevada. The conference sponsors four men’s and five women’s sports and is the only athletic conference in NJCAA Region 18. In the fall of 2016, TMCC students led the charge for bringing sports back to TMCC, with the new athletics program approved by NSHE in Spring 2017. Dr. Tina Ruff joined TMCC in Sept. 2018 as the Director of Athletics, Health and Wellness, and the TMCC Mighty Lizards held their first official season of play in the Fall of 2019. The TMCC Athletics Logo was adopted in Sept. 2018 following a class design project by TMCC Graphic Communications students. Fun Fact! Back when the institution was a satellite campus of Western Nevada Community College, TMCC previously fielded teams for basketball, boxing, golf and track under head coach and Director of Athletics and Student Activities Joe Ayarbe. TMCC sponsored no official athletic programs after 1979. Have you gone to a soccer match yet? TMCC | Brand Identity Standards 23
Athletics Logo Variations The TMCC Athletics logo consists of four (4) variations (referred to as “TMCC Lizards Logo”, “TMCC Lizards Soccer Logo”, “TMCC Lettering Logo” and “TMCC Lizards Shield”) which can be displayed in up to five (5) approved colors (TMCC Green, Light Green, Grey, Black and White). Like with the TMCC Logo, the TMCC Athletics Logos must remain unmanipulated with all original ratios and scaling kept. Greyscale and B/W variations for the TMCC Lizards Logo and the TMCC Lizards Soccer Logo are available. For more information and for specific Athletics branding guidelines, please contact the TMCC Athletics Department. 24 TMCC | Brand Identity Standards
Mighty the Lizard “Mighty the Lizard” is the official mascot of all TMCC teams, and may be referred to as either “Mighty” or “Mighty the Lizard.” The costume was modeled after the TMCC Lizards Logo. Mascot appearances can be scheduled through the Recruitment and Access Center. Inspired by the success and community support of TMCC’s inaugural season in 2019, Mighty the Lizard was a collaborative effort between TMCC Athletics, Recruitment and Access Center, and Marketing and Communications team. The name “Mighty,” selected and approved by members of the aforementioned departments in addition to representatives from Student Government Association, Academic Advising and Student Services, aims to represent the resiliency and dedication of TMCC student-athletes in their pursuit of excellence on and off the field. Mighty joins Wizard the Lizard, TMCC’s official campus-wide mascot representative, as the official mascot unique to TMCC Athletic teams. While the two mascots share some similar attributes, such as their TMCC green color, lizard-like figure, and gender neutrality, Mighty brings a combination of ferocity and friendliness alongside a more athletic build. Increased performer visibility and comfort will allow Mighty to be much more of a participant, and interact more intimately with players, fans, and supporters alike. Email Graphics Email graphics are a great way to give your important email a little help and visual interest along with promoting the TMCC brand. Marketing and Communications is happy to help take your project’s existing design and convert it into an email graphic for you to send out at your leisure. Email graphics tend to be a digested version of your project’s content, as well as a smaller graphic (when compared to embedding the entire flyer). Don’t need a whole graphic? Contact Web Services to have them help you set up an e-newsletter instead! Email Signatures Email signature graphics provide a consistent way to showcase the TMCC brand as well as highlight important information about the College. While there are no official guidelines for email signature graphics, it is suggested that you try to remain as professional as possible when constructing an email signature. The inclusion of the TMCC Horizontal logo in your email signature is recommended, so long as the TMCC Logo Guidelines are followed (a typical culprit is the squishing of the TMCC Logo). At the development of this Brand Identity Standards guide, TMCC’s email system is administered through Gmail, and the typical construction of a email signature graphic may look like: Due to the nature of reading blocks of text on screens, it is highly recommended that Sans Serif fonts be used in email signatures, as well as in the body of your emails. Sans Serif fonts help with readability and accessibility issues commonly encountered with fancier, less readable fonts (such as Comic Sans or other handwriting-like fonts). Sans Serif fonts also promote professionalism within the TMCC brand. In some special instances, email graphics have been created to help promote events or special dates on campus, such as the 50th Anniversary. Please note that these graphics are limited in use and should be phased out when the time period has expired. Please see below for an example of a limited-use graphic: TMCC | Brand Identity Standards 35

Composition Look & Feel Composition is paramount – it provides an immediate connection from the viewer to the subject without the aid of typography or branding. It is the first thing seen and the last to leave an imprint on the audience. TMCC utilizes specific composition styles to enhance the TMCC Brand. Please see the following examples. 38 TMCC | Brand Identity Standards
Primary Subjects Unless otherwise advised, the primary subject of TMCC Branded photography should be our amazing students! After that, engaged faculty and staff, exciting events, stunning campuses and of course Wizard the Lizard should make up our “photographic brand.” We’d love to highlight your program – contact Marketing and Communications to let us know what you have in mind!
