Paralegals are law professionals working as part of a legal team supporting attorneys by helping prepare for hearings, communicating with clients and other contacts, conducting research, drafting legal documents and more. As a paralegal, you will have the opportunity to make a positive difference in your community.

What Will I Study?

Complete TMCC's Paralegal/Law Program in five semesters/two years under the direct supervision of practicing attorneys and paralegals as you receive substantive and procedural law training. You will gain a solid foundation in the field of law as you study the fundamentals of law, legal research, ethics, real property, contracts, legal writing, torts, civil procedure, evidence and more. Learn the tools you will need to effectively help clients, conduct legal research, investigate cases, write and prepare pleadings and other legal forms and more.

In order to graduate with the AAS degree as a paralegal, students must complete LAW 101: Fundamentals of Law with a grade of "B" or better, and must maintain an average of 3.0 GPA in all law-related courses.

Note: this program does not qualify you to take a bar exam, to practice law or perform legal services without the supervision of a licensed attorney. Paralegals are required to work under the supervision of a lawyer who has been admitted to the bar. Paralegals may not provide legal services directly to the public, except as permitted by law.
