International Education Week - On the Trail of Orchids: Travels from Ecuador to China
Meeting ID: 967 2288 5244
Passcode: IEW
Description: Did you know that orchids are the largest family of flowering plants, and that there are more than 25,000 species? Or that they grow on every continent except Antarctica? Or that they grow in tropical, mountain, and even desert climates? During this program, we'll travel to two prolific orchid growing regions - Ecuador and Yunnan Province, China - to view some of the vast variety of native orchid plants and learn a little about the geography of each country.
Presenter: Joy Orlich
Ms. Orlich has traveled to 35 countries and developed an interest in orchids about 10 years ago and began expanding her knowledge through the Orchid Society of Northern Nevada and the Orchid Conservation Alliance. Professionally, Joy recently retired from UNR's Northern Nevada International Center where she was the finance and grants manager. She is also a member of an international women's organization and has served in many leadership capacities, enabling her to travel extensively and meet women from many different countries, cultures, and backgrounds. In advance of her orchid trip to China in 2019, she took a very helpful Chinese class from Ms. Jenny Lin through TMCC.
