Course Name: S-223 - Fireline Medic
Description:

This course is designed to provide the skills and knowledge needed to perform in the role of Fireline Medic (EMPF) or Fireline EMT (EMTF) as a Single Resource on Wildland Fires. Topics include position overview; supplies and equipment; assignments as a Single Resource; lessons learned; Medical Unit Leader expectations; emergency evacuations; communications; documentation; navigation and responsibilities; wildland safety considerations; and medical emergencies specific to the wildland arena. This class gives the Fireline EMT/ P or those pursuing the position practical advice on current guidelines for the position. This course follows the Firescope Curriculum. NWCG and California State Fire Marshal currently have no certification for this course.

Notes:

Prerequisites:

  • EMT, EMT-Advanced, or EMT-Paramedic certification ICS 100, 200, 700, 800 Wildland Firefighter, Type 2 (FFT2).
  • Arduous Fitness Level.
  • Additional Recommended Training: S-270 Basic Air Operations S-271 Helicopter Crewman S-290 Intermediate Wildland Fire Behavior Wilderness EMT or Advanced Wilderness EMT.
  • Mandatory Dress Code is Business Casual.
  • This course will be delivered online or in person, be sure to sign up for the modality that works best for you.

Course Cancellation Policies

Cancellations

In rare cases, classes may be canceled due to very low enrollment or weather conditions. If this occurs, students will be notified and will have the option of attending another class or request a refund within two weeks of cancellation.

Refunds

Cancel more than three business days in advance of the class start date and you’ll receive a full refund minus a $10 cancellation fee. Cancel three working days or less and receive a 50% refund minus a $10 cancellation fee. Once class begins, however, refunds will not be given.

Inclement Weather Policy

If a workshop is canceled due to an unexpected College closure (i.e., weather conditions, etc.) all attempts will be made to reschedule the class. Only if the class cannot be rescheduled will a full refund then be issued. Please listen to the radio or check the College website in order to determine if the school has closed. Every effort will be made to inform you of a class cancellation due to inclement weather. If you are unable to attend due to the weather in your area—but the class has not been canceled—you are still responsible to contact the department 24 hours in advance of the class start date.
