Why make registration just a regular happening?
It could be an event. There could be great prizes...
Faculty and staff of Truckee Meadows Community College are, in fact, launching a new event to make registration for Fall Semester classes fun, informative and a memorable celebration.
The first-ever “Registration Celebration” will take place April 24–26 at multiple TMCC sites. Raffle drawings are planned for a free three-credit class, an iPod Nano, a membership to the María C. Sheehan Fitness Center and book scholarships.
“It will be great—students can come to the Registration Celebration events, have the support there that they need to register, and have fun at the same time,” said Amber Burroughs, Access, Outreach and Recruitment Program Manager.
Monday, April 24:
- Dandini Campus, V. James Eardley Student Center: 9 a.m.–4 p.m.
- William N. Pennington Health Science Center, Redfield Lobby: Noon–5 p.m.
Tuesday, April 25
- William N. Pennington Applied Technology Center, lobby: Noon–5 p.m.
Wednesday, April 26
- Meadowood Center, lobby: 8 a.m.–Noon
April 24 is also the first day that continuing students are able to enroll in Fall Semester classes.
Raffle Prizes
Multiple “Register Now, Ask Me How” drawings are planned for the registration campaign between April 24 and Friday, May 19.
“One of the prizes is for someone who actually registers for six credits at one of the week’s events, and it’s a $200 book scholarship to the TMCC Bookstore,” Burroughs said. “The winners will be notified the following week.”
Attendees will also be entered to win one of the many other TMCC prizes through the “Register Now, Ask Me How” campaign by registering for six or more credits before May 19.
- Grand Prize: free three-credit TMCC class for Fall 2017
- Semester membership and locker at the María C. Sheehan Fitness Center, Dandini Campus
- $200 TMCC Bookstore Scholarship (two available)
- An iPod Nano
April 24: Snacks, Board Games and Advising Help
Laptops will be set up in the Student Center for the April 24 registration event. Academic advisors and Access, Outreach and Recruitment (AOR) staff will be on hand to help students with enrollment questions, and to facilitate giant board games.
A TMCC Innovation Grant enabled AOR staff members to purchase equipment for the unique celebration; such as a giant “Connect 4” game, a set of giant “Jenga®” stacking blocks, large-scale “Wheel of Fortune” and “Plinko.”
They will also bring table-sized board games for students to play in groups, or to join in and meet new friends. AOR staff will wear brightly colored T-shirts to be easy to find.
“It might be nice for students to get their registration out of the way before the busy time at the last part of the semester, before going off for summer break,” Burroughs said.
Popcorn was donated by the TMCC student Psychology Club, and the Student Government Association (SGA) will be providing a popcorn machine.
