Northern Nevada employers are intently searching for employees right now, and some companies are even hiring new staff members right at job fair booths.
“There have been more on-the-spot interviews at recent job fairs,” said Kelley Wong, Student Professional Development Coordinator. “Also, companies new to TMCC job events have been registering for the Fall Job Fair and so there are more employer opportunities to offer the students.”
With 45 employers already registered by the first week in October, Wong expects between 50-70 companies participating in the Fall Job Fair.
“There is still room for employers to register for the Fall Job Fair at the Dandini Campus,” she said. “Interested companies can contact the Career Center to register.”
- When: Wednesday, Oct. 18; Networking Breakfast 9–10 a.m. and Job Fair 10 a.m.–1 p.m.
- Where: V. James Eardley Student Center, 7000 Dandini Blvd.
The Fair is free and open to any job seeker who has completed a class at TMCC, current students, and all TMCC graduates.
Wong suggests that students and alumni attending the Fair bring multiple copies of their resume, and that they “dress to impress.”
“Questions that the employers often ask are about the students’ schedules, how many hours they want to work and what classes they’re taking,” Wong added. “We encourage students to come with their own questions too, including a specific question about the employer. That will really help them stand out.”
The Networking Breakfast
New for the Fall Semester—students do not need a Networking Breakfast ticket prior to the event. The Career Center team asks that students dress in business casual for the breakfast.
“The Networking Breakfast is an opportunity for the students to meet with the employers when they’re fresh—when it’s quiet without a lot of people around at the Fair proper, and to ask specific questions when the employers have the time to give thorough answers,” Wong said.
Workshops Leading up to Fall Job Fair
TMCC’s Career Center offers a variety of workshops leading up to the Fall Job Fair:

- Resume Workshop: Thursday, Oct. 12, at 2:30–4 p.m.
“In resume workshops, we talk about providing data showing employers that the student is an achiever—they can list the number of customers they see in a day, upsells, average total sales, how many people in their team, how quickly they can do something, or even how large the facility or warehouse is where they work,” Wong said.
