There are a number of brand new academic programs and innovative equipment upgrades launching or arriving for Fall Semester at Truckee Meadows Community College, so much so that students may seriously decide to check them out.
Registration for Fall Semester is now open for both continuing and new students. Fees for Fall are only due by August 20, no matter when a student registers.
A new degree program begins in Hospitality and Tourism Management, another towards the career of radiation therapist, and a transferable Associate of Arts, Graphic Communications degree is now offered. The first 300-level courses begin that lead to an advanced certificate in Graphic Arts & Media Technologies (GAMT).
Leading edge new equipment on order includes a 3-D printer—students will pay for their own printing materials—in the learning commons at the Elizabeth Sturm Library. Several academic classrooms will also be updated with iPads and Apple TV projection units.
“We are hiring some really great professors in dance, art, English and other subject areas,” said Jill Channing, PhD, Dean of Liberal Arts. “There will be a new science tutoring and study lab in the learning commons once construction is complete.”
A grant has funded light board equipment to assist math students with supplemental tutor support of video recorded lessons and tutorials. Additional grant projects are also underway, including support for increased adoption of free Open Educational Resource (OER) textbooks.
