TMCC Athletics: Offseason Review

Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC) Athletics is just a few short weeks away from embarking on its sixth season of NJCAA competition. Coaches Geoff Hawkins and Kyle Kelly have been hard at work recruiting the next generation of Mighty Lizards, with many first-year student-athletes set to debuts at the collegiate level. As we reflect on the spring and summer and prepare for the upcoming fall season, it’s time for our offseason review.

Spring Games

Mighty Lizard Men’s and Women’s Soccer competed in several spring scrimmages this past April, playing against local clubs, junior colleges, and universities. Every offseason is somewhat of a reset for players and coaches, as these low-stakes games allow players to play new positions, try various new tactics, and allow for more individual coaching. Our players gained solid experience and vital chemistry in each game played, and both Coach Hawkins & Coach Kelly hope to build off that success as we move into the regular season.

Summer Camps

This year was TMCC’s second year hosting youth soccer camps, and we couldn’t be happier with its success! During three separate week-long camp sessions and the option to choose between half-day and full-day, kids ages 8-14 got first-hand experience learning the sport in a fast-paced group training environment, including individual coaching. In addition, these kids utilized tactical film sessions, scrimmages, and indoor soccer (futsal) to learn further about spatial awareness and how that can make or break possession. Our staff remained committed to the individual improvement of each camper while stressing the importance of having fun on the pitch.

Looking Ahead

Changes have been made within Region XVIII between last season and today to heighten the competition. With our in-state rival, College of Southern Nevada, departing for Region I, the Scenic West Athletic Conference has announced the addition of College of Southern Idaho and North Idaho College, both of which will make their Region XVIII soccer debuts this fall. While we don’t know what the future of the Silver State Series holds, TMCC remains grateful for the time competing against CSN and is excited to host two elite junior colleges that will bring out the best competitive spirits from our student-athletes.

Schedule

Want to catch the Mighty Lizards live in Reno this fall? Men’s and Women’s Soccer will each host seven home matches that will surely leave fans on the edge of their seats. With a battle-born grit and a battle-ready attitude, our student-athletes are excited to represent TMCC and the state of Nevada with an unmatched competitive spirit. Home matches include:
