Lab Fee: $80. Open Entry/Closed Exit labs. Students taking WELD 211-8001 must also enroll in WELD 212-8001. Lab open Mon. - Fri., 1:30-9 p.m. Students must enroll by 10/7/2024 and complete all coursework by 12/9/2024. Additional costs of up to $150 for protective clothing and equipment may be required. Students must attend an orientation on 8/26/2024, the first day of class, at 2:30 or 5:30 p.m. In the event of public health restrictions or other emergencies, classes may need to be changed to Web-Live, Web, or Hybrid instruction modes. Students will be notified by instructors and/or academic departments of any required changes.

Description
This course introduces the learner to the world of welding. The course includes general shop safety and environmental issues; introduction to oxygen/fuel gas supply systems, the oxyfuel cutting process, and the SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc-Welding) process; and an introduction to interpreting basic welding symbols. This course satisfies 4 hours of instruction toward completing the embedded human relations curriculum requirements, in accordance with Embedded Curriculum Guidelines Option A. This course satisfies 8 hours of instruction toward completing the embedded mathematics curriculum requirements, in accordance with Embedded Curriculum Guidelines Option A.

Prerequisite: 20/20 vision (corrected), good hand-eye coordination, general good health. Students enrolling in WELD 211-8001 must also enroll in WELD 212-8001.
