Truckee Meadows Community College is committed to compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act which state:
No otherwise qualified, handicapped individual in the United States shall solely, by reason of his handicap, be excluded from the participation in, be denied the benefit of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.
Disabilities covered by this legislation include (but are not limited to): learning disabilities, health impairments, psychiatric disorders, hearing impairments, head injuries, mobility impairments, spinal cord injuries and visual impairments. Students experiencing an impact on their ability to participate in TMCC's programs, events, and activities from short-term conditions are also eligible for services.
All students who request accommodations must provide documentation from a qualified evaluator with expertise related to their disability before they will be recognized by the Disability Resource Center as a person with a disability. TMCC is required to provide students with appropriate academic adjustments and auxiliary aids and services that are necessary to afford an individual with a disability an equal opportunity to participate in the college's programs. TMCC is not required to make adjustments or provide aids or services that would result in a fundamental alteration of the college's programs or impose an undue burden.
The information on the completed Medical/Psychological Disability Assessment form will be kept in a confidential file in the Disability Resource Center office. No information concerning inquiries about accommodation or documentation will be released without written consent.
