Overview
Geography studies the relationships between places, the environment, and the people who live there. It is a bridge between the physical and social sciences with much demand in emerging job markets. Geography classes at TMCC emphasizes the integration of human and physical geography and encourages the use of geospatial information technology.
Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
GIS is a broad-reaching field that deals with the collection, processing, analysis, and projection of spatial data. A multitude of fields rely on this discipline including natural resource management, civil engineering, business, urban planning, public health, Earth sciences, and many more.
The Geospatial Data Management Skills Certificate simple, three-class sequence that could be added on to degrees in the disciplines listed above, making you more desirable to employers. This certificate is stackable to a Certificate of Achievement offered at UNR. The classes in this certificate are listed below:
- GEOG 210 – Geotechnology: Learn to collect geospatial data, analyze those data using ArcGIS software. Offered in the fall.
- GEOG 220 – Cartography: Study and apply the skills for creating a map that is an effective communication tool.
- DATA 101 – Introduction to Data Science: A survey course of the core elements of data science.
