Per the NFA Contract, Article 9, TMCC is announcing to all eligible Academic and Administrative faculty that a need exists for Two (2) Designers and Producers of Professional Development (PD) Canvas Modules to support new CTE Part-Time Faculty.
Posting Date
Dec. 17, 2024
Description
February through June, 2025. This assignment involves some paid work during summer months. Designers and Producers of PD Modules to help Onboard and Support New PT Faculty in CTE Programs.
Scope of Work
This Perkins-funded assignment seeks two faculty members with expertise in Career and Technical Education (CTE) disciplines to design and produce Professional Development (PD) modules in Canvas during Spring semester 2025 and through the balance of the fiscal year, ending June 30, 2025. These modules will support new Part-Time Faculty, particularly those in CTE disciplines who are new to working in higher education, and will offer them tips and strategies for success. Modules produced may be helpful for all new PT Faculty, but this project focuses on CTE programs due to its funding source.
Responsibilities and Deliverables
TMCC’s WebCollege offers many PD resources for effective online instruction, and our Professional Development Office provides additional workshops, resources, and training. However, there remains a need for guidance and advice for new Part-Time Faculty, especially those in CTE disciplines who are transitioning from working in industry to teaching in higher education for the first time. For this project, the chosen applicants will:
- Gather input and suggested topics from CTE faculty and program leads
- Author, design, and produce 10 short Canvas modules of 7-10 minutes each
- Author content to support Part-Time Faculty in key areas, including such themes as:
- Preparing Your Syllabus
- Tips for Lesson Planning and Student Engagement
- Communicating Effectively with College Students
- Classroom Management and Student Conduct
- Helpful Teaching Tips and Resources
- Learning Assessment and Grading
- Advice from Seasoned Instructors
- Understanding FERPA
- and more topics developed by the participating faculty
- Produce each module using a combination of video, animation, and/or other media
- Include brief assessments to verify participation and understanding
- Work with the Instructional Designers in WebCollege to ensure ADA compliance and best practices for online course design
Qualifications
Federal Perkins funding supports CTE disciplines exclusively, so only faculty with expertise in CTE disciplines are eligible to participate. Applicants should possess the following:
- At least two years of full-time teaching experience in CTE in higher education
- Knowledge of effective onboarding strategies for new PT Faculty
- Experience designing and teaching with digital media
- Course and program development experience preferred
Compensation
$5,000 stipend, payable via NSHE payroll (February-June, 2025). This Perkins grant-funded opportunity cannot support reassigned time, as federal grant funds must directly support the specific work project as submitted in the college’s Perkins proposal. Additionally, the assignment dates continue beyond the last day of contract for Academic Faculty.
