The Veterinary Assistant Coordinator will (1) oversee the curriculum, course offerings, training facilities, and faculty involved with the Vet Assisting Program, (2) maintain compliance with regulations, (3) recruit and orient part time veterinary assisting faculty, and (4) coordinate all veterinary assisting program activities.
Scope of Work
This position will serve during the 2024-25 academic term starting on July 1, 2024 and ending on June 30, 2025 as 6 units of release or overload time. This additional assignment is not automatically renewed annually.
Responsibilities and Deliverables
- Continue oversight of the curriculum of the program, maintain accreditation, and comply with any changes from the accreditor.
- Assist with the development and oversight of procedures for admission to the program.
- Assist with the development and oversight of the scheduling of the program.
- Select, supervise, and evaluate such number of qualified instructors as is necessary to carry out the program.
- Arrange adequate educational facilities for training in veterinary assisting skills.
- Arrange adequate clinical facilities for training.
- Develop written policies for admission to, continuance in, dismissal and withdrawal from the program.
- Ongoing curriculum development and assessment.
- Ongoing development of resources for students.
- Determination of program outcomes, with measurable determinants of student success.
- Work with existing TMCC services, faculty and staff to ensure operation of the veterinary assisting program.
- Coordinate veterinary assisting skills laboratory activities.
- Coordinate instructional laboratories for veterinary assisting students and faculty and work to assure these laboratories complement course requirements.
- Orient and train new faculty to the operations, including ordering of supplies, disposal of waste, etc.
- Perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with standards, mission and goals of Truckee Meadows Community College.
- Maintain sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds and disabilities of community college students.
- Comply with published college policies and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned by the Dean.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will meet the following criteria:
- Current TMCC employee.
- Preferred: One-year teaching experience.
- Preferred: Experience in Vet Nursing and/or other relevant experience
Compensation
This assignment is a 3 credit release or stipend for the Fall 2024 semester and 3 credit release or stipend for the Spring 2025 semester.

Julie Ellswordth, Dean of Life Sciences, Allied Health and Public Safety.
