Description
The Writing Tutor Liaison will play a key role in the Tutoring and Learning Center (TLC) at Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC). This position provides leadership and support to the writing tutors, ensuring the delivery of high-quality tutoring services to students. The liaison will report jointly to the Program Manager of the TLC and the English Department Chair, bridging the needs of both areas to foster student success in writing.
Scope of Work
This assignment consists of approximately 3 hours of work per week, including workshop development, tutor training, observation, and follow-up sessions to track progress over the spring 2025 semester. This assignment will begin Jan. 28, 2025, and will end May 16, 2025. This additional assignment is not automatically renewed annually.
Responsibilities and Deliverables
- Serve as the point of contact and training leader for writing tutors in the TLC.
- Collaborate with the TLC Program Manager and the English Department Chair to align tutoring services with English department writing goals and standards.
- Assist with the recruitment, training, and ongoing development of writing tutors.
- Monitor and evaluate writing tutoring sessions to maintain quality and effectiveness. (1-3 hours per week in the TLC.)
- Provide support and guidance to writing tutors, addressing any challenges or concerns.
- Act as a writing resource for students, tutors, and staff, ensuring tutoring services meet diverse student needs.
- Collect and analyze data on writing tutoring sessions to assess and improve program outcomes.
- Attend and contribute to meetings with the TLC and English Department as needed.
- Project Goals and Objectives:
- Increase successful completion of English composition sequence.
- Improve writing tutor skills through training, instructor collaboration, and embedding.
- Increase frequency of student use of TLC writing tutors
Qualifications
The ideal candidate for this position will meet the following criteria:
- Current TMCC Composition English faculty.
- Writing Center or tutor training experience preferred.
- One year or more of full-time teaching experience in English Composition or equivalent.
- Be familiar with the English Department, its course offerings, and their function within the college.
Compensation
Three credits of course release time or the equivalent stipend.

Tutoring and Learning Center Program Manager and English Department Chair

Interested faculty will submit a letter of interest describing special qualifications and background information no later than 5 p.m. on Jan. 29, 2025.
