If you are considering a career in the emergency management field, the Emergency Management STEP (Students Training in Emergency Professions) Grant Program offers a comprehensive online workshop to provide you with critical information related to industry jobs, along with career counseling and scholarship opportunities. Offered in collaboration with the state of Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR), this online workshop serves as a gateway to a rewarding career in emergency management, one of the fastest-growing career fields in the country with excellent employment opportunities in both public and private businesses.
What Are Emergency Management Careers?
Careers in emergency management span various sectors, including government, fire protection, law enforcement, healthcare, and technology. The online workshop, equivalent to a college mini-course, will introduce you to these diverse career tracks and illustrate how entry-level training can be a stepping stone on the path to a rewarding career.
Career Pathways
Completing an eligible Skills Certificate in public safety or healthcare allows you to seamlessly transition to earning an associate or bachelor’s degree, including TMCC’s Bachelor of Applied Science in Emergency Management (BAS-EM).
Workshop Benefits
When you participate in this online workshop, which can be completed before or during enrollment in a one-semester eligible Skills Certificate in a Public Safety or healthcare-related discipline, you will engage in:
- Personalized career counseling and job/education training.
- Pre- and post-evaluation surveys to assess the program's impact on your understanding and interest in pursuing a career related to emergency management.
- Upon successful completion of the free workshop, you will earn a stipend through the EM STEP Program to cover your tuition and the associated cost of an eligible Skills Certificate (books, uniforms, exam fees, and other expenses).
Qualifications
- You must be a Nevada Resident or Neighboring States Resident
- You must be US citizen or Permanent Resident
- You must be 18 years or older
- You must be pursuing an entry-level Emergency-Related Skills Certificate

Eligibility
Current TMCC students are eligible to apply and must fulfill all requirements for the grant opportunity between Jan. 1, 2025–April 28, 2025.
